Blacksmith versus doctor earnings in old west?

Medieval times? What is mid-evil? LOL sorry . . okay, to answer your question - I don't know the average earnings, but my father told me that blacksmiths actually earned more than doctors. Doctors were just kind of expected to take care of people. They were often not paid. Sometimes, doctors were paid with food, necessities, etc. Blacksmiths were usually paid cash, accepted very little in trade. I just wondered why this was asked in this section.
